Golden Ratio Caliper Kit – Heavy-Duty Steel, DIY Assembly
Build it yourself. Use it for a lifetime.
This DIY kit includes everything you need to assemble your own set of precision Golden Ratio Calipers, crafted from thick 3/16-inch steel and finished with solid copper rivets. Designed for blacksmiths, woodworkers, leatherworkers, and artists who appreciate fine tools and timeless proportions.
The calipers are built to measure the Golden Ratio (1:1.618)—a proportion found in nature, art, and architecture that has been used for centuries to create visually balanced, aesthetically pleasing designs. Whether you're laying out material, composing patterns, or refining your work, these calipers help you apply this timeless principle with accuracy and ease.
Each piece is CNC plasma cut and cleaned up for smooth assembly, ensuring an accurate fit and a rugged, handcrafted feel.

FAQ:Q: What tools will I need to assemble the calipers?
A: Basic tools like a hammer and small anvil surface (or any solid flat surface) are all you need to peen the rivets. A center punch or ball peen hammer works well for flaring the rivet heads. Pro Tip: Use a thin spacer (like a business card) between the arms while riveting to prevent over-tightening.Q: Can I polish or finish them myself?
A: Absolutely. We ship the steel parts cleaned up and deburred, but you can further polish, oil, paint or patina them however you like.Q: Do you offer them with your maker’s mark?
A: Yes! You can choose either stamped with my Melton Forge Works touchmark or a few other stamps in the options section at checkout, including plain unmarked for your own personalization.Q: How long does assembly take?
A: Most people can fully assemble their calipers in 15-30 minutes.Q: Do you offer an assembled version?
A: I will be, however it will be a bit more expensive—this kit is designed specifically for folks who enjoy hands-on projects and want to put their personal touch on their set of calipers.
